The Creekside East Shred Event and Food Drive went on as scheduled at Pool #2 off of Mill Creek from 9 am to 3 pm. This is the second year this the event has taken place and more residents participated this year than last year, with about 65+ residents in attendance.
Residents were waiting at 9 am for the event to start and the last resident arrived at about 2:45 pm. Some residents took advantage of the on-site shredding and went back to their home to retrieve more boxes of paperwork to shred. Some coming back 2 and 3 times.
The ACCESS crew, Beto, Pedro, Richardo and Chris were on hand to help residents unload paperwork from their vehicles. Residents were able to view the shredding process, by watching a camera on the truck showing the bin loaded with paperwork being dumped in the shredder and being shredded. The truck also had a special slot with a shredder that crushed computer hard drives...something that few residents were aware of. Access has been providing Community shreds all around the country at their different locations at low rates to give back to Community's.
This year the shred event was teamed up with a food drive, which is what has been happening at other Community Shreds ACCESS has participated in. Although the food drive was not advertised well Creekside East residents stepped up and contributed 53 items of food products and 4 dozen jars & containers of baby food. There was also 2 large cans of dog food, which was appropriate because this is the Year of the DOG (Chinese New Year). ACCESS employees also collected canned food and donated it to our food drive ...which we are greatly appreciative of. The food items collected will be donated to a local food back, SOVA (Ontario branch). Residents that participated in the shred event voiced their satisfaction with the event and asked if the event would take place again next year. Some commented on how they enjoyed the convenience of on-site shredding and being just in time for Spring cleaning. The Community Shred was a success due to the residents that participated and to the ACCESS Company and staff that made this event possible. A Special Thank You goes out to the ACCESS staff who were so helpful and a pleasure to work with. Look forward to another "Community Shred Event" and working with the ACCESS team again.
